9/24/2007 New Term, New Internet, and New RouterI spent two days doing the MaSH/PMP training with the MaSH department; my department needed it for me to get trained up and ready to teach probably next term (winter and spring), so gonna be a facilitator for Math 10/11 Labs this term as well as working as a tutor in MaSH and (probably in LRC? that's a private tutor kinda job, not getting paid well though hehe) well at least going to renew my contract with LRC (Learning Resources Center at Cal Poly Pomona) tomorrow; have to remember to bring my SSN card, silly contract >.>
well if you're wondering what kinda level Math 10/11 is at, let me tell you: students learn how to solve linear system of equations with two or three unknowns in Math 11, and Math 10 is one level below. and they are going to be taught the formulas to find the solutions to quadratic equations in Math 12.
I just signed up for 6 difference classes, crazy huh? mat 697, the comprehensive exams, gonna do some review; sci 400, for CRLA certification(actually I didn't sign up for it, coz I'm a graduate student); mat 401 numercial analysis; mat 470, combinatorics; mat 580 optimization; SME 501, teaching adults math. bascially only the 401, 470 and 580 are the real classes, the rest are just facilitating me to do whatever my department wants me to..
lots of my friends back in 511/512 and 517/518 are now gone to doctoral schools. so envy >.< (USC, UCSD, and CGU), saw Jay on campus one day, and he's a part time faculty now.
now I'm facing the greatest ever financial difficulty, because my department wants me to facilitate first before I can teach >.>
so no tuition waive >.> and because of the new union contract the professors got with the CSU system, I might not have it even when I actually starting teaching>.> oh my~~~~
anyway. busy days hehe, gotta get up at 7am to drive my cousin to school, his starts at 8am.
I'm not sure how long I can stand it hehe
and new Internet got installed, the express one from AT&T (I wanted the Elite one, but based on the quality of my phone lines, they don't have anything better for me in my house at the moment), so the speed's soso; however the most important thing about this new Internet isI can only stay on msn mesenger, I can log into my accounts from BoA and Wells Fargo, etc... hehe relability and stabilty are what I want the most. and I also bought myself a new Netgear Range Next router with me and an adapter (this adapter ended up being returned to Fry's, the driver isn't compatible with windows Vista, still cisco is better).
wow new beginning :) and busy busy busy :)

and entered San Francisco from the south. It's been a while since the first time I was in San Francisco. I still can remember the fun driving on the 49 mile scenic drive, especially the difficulty of finding the next clue of where to go for next turn. This time I studied a lot of maps. with a lil addition of my own experience, I added in a lot of "new" places of interests for our visit.
we first arrived at the Castro Theatre, the center of homo. in SF. then we wen to see the "painted ladies", seven distinctive victorian houses. and then we went to check out the St. Mary Cathedral, such beautiful church. later we went to check out the city hall and the asian art musuem. it was fantastic, we spent like 2 hours studying exhibition of budda (spelling) from asia. and then we drove through the crookedest street on Earth in SF. It was a blast, only wished I could drive faster. we stopped at the Fishman's Wharf for lunch, seafoooood, my favorite. and then we drove all the way west to visit the golden gate bridge, we didn't drive on it though. on the 49 mile science drive, we arrived at the cliff house, a house on a cliff... after enough drinking of wind from the sea, we climbed high up on twin peaks, and enjoyed the fascinating scence of San Francisco bathed in lights at night. it was alluring. after we got down from the twin peaks (the highest point in SF), we decided to have dinner in chinatown, the cleanest chinatown in America. dinner was good and "expensive" and you would be feeling safe walking in chinatown after 9pm.
the next day, after fixing up a small incident(my car was towed :() we went to check out the palace of fine arts. it was gorgeous. and then we drove to the UCSF medical center, one of the top ten hospitals in America; because one of my friends needed an offical check on this TB test. we stopped at the Japanese center for lunch, seawood, sushi, sashimi, and miso soup, yummy. when we were full again, we decided to check out one of the famous shopping square in SF (the union square), and I got a new pans from Levi's there. and after our another visit to a chinese hospital in the chinatown, (the East China Hospital, potentially the oldest chinese hospital), we started heading back home on the 101 S, then 92 E ( a huge bridge just a lil above the sea), and 880 North, 238 south, then 580 East till we hitted 5 South again. :)
such unforgettable journey, as well as some small incidents. |
